All eyes were on The Walking Dead Season 2 before it was released. People were truly blown away by the first game that Telltale Games released. The level of storytelling and emotional gut-punching that the game did made it win many game of the year awards. The Walking Dead Season 2 manages to keep things going as it is just as awesome.

The Story

Once again, The Walking Dead Season 2 is split up into five different chapters as it was in the first game. The big difference with this one is that instead of playing as Lee and protecting Clementine. You now actually play as Clementine herself. The game is set after the events of the first game and Clementine is trying to make a go of it with two characters from the first game, Omid and Christa.

Of course, things go horribly wrong and Clementine and Christa end up separated. Clementine wants to find Christa but ends up coming across a new set of characters. These new characters are great, I especially liked Luke and in the way, I played the game him and Clem had a really good relationship…. Of course, as this is The Walking Dead that relationship is ripped away from you!I think that the story of The Walking Dead Season 2 is as good as the first game. It has some really amazing scenes, great moments that lead back to the first game and some cool villains. The ending section of the game that puts you in the middle of two characters fighting is one of the tensest parts of a game I have ever experienced.

The Presentation

The Walking Dead Season 2 really does not change much if anything up from the presentation of the first game. I do think that the locations are a bit more varied in this game, but overall the presentation is pretty much the same. It has that comic book style which I really liked and while I say it is the same. I do not necessarily mean that as a knock on the game. The voice acting is once again amazing. Again, the cast they got for this game is truly incredible and there is not a weak link in the whole game. Also, the music that they have in The Walking Dead Season 2 fits in perfectly. It is tense when it needs to be and gentle when it is called for.

The Gameplay

When you jump into The Walking Dead Season 2 you are met with a lot of familiarities. Telltale Games struck gold with the game engine that they used and I am glad that they did not change things as much as they had a great formula here and it works just as well for this second game. There are a couple more “action” quick time style events in this one and they are not overused which I think was the right decisions. Speaking of decisions. The Walking Dead Season 2 once again comes at you really hard with the decisions it forces you to make. You sometimes have to lie, make accusations and in the end, you flat out have to choose between two people.

Final Thoughts On The Walking Dead Season 2

The Walking Dead Season 2 may not alter things much at all from the previous game, but I do not think that is a bad thing at all. It is well worth playing through and I personally feel that it is nearly just as good as the first game. This is a game I have played through multiple times on multiple systems and it hits me in the feels every time.

Final Score: 9.5/10
